Getting A Game Plan

My guy and I are getting a game plan together to take a trip to Crete, Greece. Rather than take a preplanned traditional tour through the island, we are going to just shoot from the hip and plan our own trip. We were stationed there 29 years ago and haven't been back since. So, with our empty knapsack awaiting at the foot of our bed alongside our sort of packed suitcases here is what we have on our agenda. We still have some time to tweak and torque our trip But, this is looking like a vague idea of what we are going to do.

  • Visit Knossos Ruins
  • Markets of Chania
  • Orthodox Cathedral in Chania
  • See the site of Heraklion Air Station
  • Hike in Lasithi region
  • Visit the open air museum in Chersonossis
  • Go to the beach of Vai
  • Snorkel Crete Beaches
  • See a waterfall in Sitia
  • Lake Kournas
  • Beach of Matala
  • Hike in Daymer, Kourtalioli, Argyropolis, Rodakino, and Fraggi Koraka
  • Visit our old apartment in Kokkini Hani
  • Enjoy Greek cuisine
  • Hike the Samaria Gorge
  • Possibly take a day trip to Santorini
  • Gouves
  • Greek jewelry store...no really Michael a necklace would be divine

Hoping to keep it mostly vague because traveling into the unknown has always proven to be the most adventurous to me. Michael is a little nervous flying by the seat of our pants. But, he is going into it knowing that we will get lost. We have no real map and I could care less if we ever come back. So, with lots of packing still yet to do, that's our haphazard game plan.

We plan to take only a carry on and a personal bag each. The nightmare of getting "checked in" luggage lost doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather pack less and know that I have my belongings with me the day I arrive on the island. Jump on board our blog and virtually enjoy our journey with us. If you have any suggestions or traveling tips feel free to drop us a comment and share it with us.

Good To Know: Gas stations close at 7:00 p.m. in the villas and 10:30 p.m. in the cities. 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays and may be closed on Sundays. They are full service.
